Closing event of the project aimed at strengthening the resilience of Syrian refugee population and the local community of Karoun Municipality in Lebanon
Karaoun, Lebanon – Last 28th of September, the closing event of the project aimed at strengthening the resilience of the Syrian refugee population and the local community of Karaoun Municipality in Lebanon took place in front of a large public of adults and children, both Lebanese and Syrians, at the presence of representatives of the Embassy of Italy in Beirut, of the Cooperation Office of the Embassy and of the Municipality of Karaoun, as well as of CTM President, Enrico Azzone.
The project, implemented by CTM in partnership with Karaoun Mounicipality and in collaboration with Les Amis des Marionnettes and the Islamic Scouts, is one of the actions promoted through the Program, funded by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, aimed at enhancing the resiliency of Syrian Refugees and Lebanese affected by the crisis.
The project offered to 265 Syrian refugees in Karaoun Municipality new income opportunities through rapid employment activities, which consisted in building infrastructure benefiting the whole community, environmental rehabilitation and water supply. The component organized by Les Amis des Marionnettes involved 608 women in the realization of story-telling and puppet show workshops. The initiative supported as well to promote integration between the refugee and the host communities, strengthening the role of mediation and refugee assistance management carried out by the Municipality.
