Nabatiyeh and Tyre, July 2021
Lebanon is experiencing an economic, financial and social crisis that seems to have no end. The explosion of the port of Beirut in August 2020 was added to the humanitarian drama brought about by the Syrian crisis, the collapse of purchasing power and the lack of an immediate political way out.
Faced with this scenario, international cooperation seeks to offer support tools to the population by promoting the right to income and decent work among vulnerable groups (poor, refugees, women, people with disabilities). The project “ERA: Emergency, Resilience, Environment. Employment opportunities in support of the Municipalities of Southern Lebanon” is financed by AICS (Italian Agency for Development Cooperation) and developed thanks to the partnership between the Italian NGOs Armadilla and CTM.
On July 16, the ERA project opens the selections for over 500 vulnerable beneficiaries called to improve environmental services of public utility, combining the very first emergency activities with those aimed to strengthen the resilience and capacities of the two main municipalities of the South Lebanon region, Nabatieh and Tyre, in the management of fundamental public services such as waste collection, cleaning and maintenance of beaches and public green areas.
